Judd Apatow: Donald Trump Is ‘Crazy Girl From ‘The Bachelor”
Judd Apatow offered a hilarious take on the conflicting sense of joy and horror that Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign has inspired, telling CNN’s Don Lemon: “I really do believe that Donald Trump is the crazy girl on The Bachelor that you don’t want to get kicked off too early because they’re fun to watch, but you pray that they will not win.”
The rest of the Trainwreck director’s response was more measured. He called Trump’s media circus of a campaign an “enormous distraction” from important issues, and added his bid for the Republican nomination seemed more like a means of maintaining fame.
“A lot of people, I think, do this just to get a job as a commentator, just to keep hosting game shows, and I think that’s a big distraction,” Apatow said. “I think we should have people who really care about running the country. And I don’t feel like he really believes it’s going to happen.”
Odds are, the self-effacing Apatow is eagerly awaiting a quintessentially blusterous response from Trump — though hopefully the real estate and entertainment tycoon does not have the director’s phone number.
During his interview with Lemon, Apatow also spoke again about Bill Cosby, whom he recently eviscerated in a stand-up set on The Tonight Show. Apatow has been a fierce critic of Cosby and criticized the lack of action being taken against the comedian, despite the numerous allegations of rape leveled against him, and the growing evidence to support the claims.
Noting the heavy media coverage surrounding the two killers who recently escaped from a New York penitentiary, Apatow said: “We’re very concerned about those two people, but Cosby’s just at home eating cereal. And I think it’s important that people try to do something about it because if not it says to other people, you can do it and you’re not going to get in trouble.”
