Watch Demi Lovato, Michelle Rodriguez Clash in ‘Confident’ Video
Demi Lovato gets fast and furious in the new video for her catchy new song, “Confident.”
Sin City and Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez helmed the video, which also stars Michelle Rodriguez as Lovato’s foe. “Confident” opens with Lovato in a maximum security prison, where she’s granted a pardon for selling out Rodriguez’s character by a U.S. marshal. Lovato is sent to set up Rodriguez, but the singer soon realizes that Rodriguez is a step ahead of her.
As the police attempt to take Lovato back to prison, she breaks free and jumps into Rodriguez’s trailing car. A fistfight ensues before the pair realize they were both played (and branded) by the marshal. Revenge, as is Robert Rodriguez’s wont, ensues.
“Confident” is the latest single off Lovato’s forthcoming fifth LP of the same name. It follows up lead single “Cool for the Summer,” which she performed at the 2015 Video Music Awards with Iggy Azalea.
Confident follows Lovato’s 2013 release Demi, the singer’s highest-selling and highest-charting album of her career. Her latest LP, set for release on October 16th, will feature guest features from Azaela and Sirah as well as writing and production credits from Max Martin.
In a recent interview with Complex, Lovato noted that her favorite track off the LP is “Stone Cold,” which she’s hoping will grab the attention of the Grammy committee. “I want the Grammy committee to hear [that song] so that one day they can see that — I know that I’m capable of getting there,” she said. “I watched the Grammy nominations last year, and I was like, ‘I want to be there so bad.’ It gave me that kick in the ass to make music that was worthy of it. This is a song that I feel like is worthy of notification.”
