Watch Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake Perform ‘History of Rap 6’
Justin Timberlake visited his buddy Jimmy Fallon‘s Tonight Show Wednesday night, which usually means one thing: A new installment in their beloved, Roots-assisted “History of Rap” megamix. The pair wasted no time as the show opened with Timberlake and Fallon singing Jay Z and R. Kelly’s “Fiesta” to kick off the dance party.
“History of Rap” spans over 30 years of hip-hop, from LL Cool J’s “Rock the Bells” and Whodini’s “Friends” to Fetty Wap’s “My Way” and Drake’s “Know Yourself.” Along the way, Timberlake and Fallon paid tribute to old school favorites like Salt-N-Pepa and Slick Rick, iconic groups like Public Enemy and N.W.A, pop-rap smash singles like “U Can’t Touch This” and “Informer” and contemporary rappers like Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar, the latter being up the road to perform on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
Timberlake and Fallon began performing their Histories of Rap in September 2010 on Late Night, with annual installments following in the ensuing years. In March 2013, Fallon pledged that the fourth chapter would be “the last time” the History of Rap was performed, yet they still delivered volume five in February 2014.
