See Turnpike Troubadours Cowboy Up in ‘Down Here’ Rodeo Video
For their new video for “Down Here,” cool country-rockers Turnpike Troubadours look to that old adage about getting back on the horse after being bucked off.
The song’s encouraging message suggests that while the high life is all well and good, your real friends will be there when you’ve lost your way or find yourself getting knocked down to earth. The rodeo-themed clip accompanies the first single from the Red Dirt band’s self-titled fourth album, which frontman Evan Felker insists carries the “country” label proudly.
“Any time some rock & roller gets washed up in whatever band they’re in, they switch to country music and try to play our game,” he tells Rolling Stone Country. “But it’s not country music. It’s just bad pop. I grew up in a town of 400 people. I worked in a paper mill. My dad’s a cowboy. I’m from the country, and you just can’t fool me with that pop stuff. . . I’m happy to be a country band.”
On December 4th, the band will play in Miami, Oklahoma, with upcoming shows (including some solo acoustic dates for Felker) in Springfield, Illinois, Tulsa and Okemah, Oklahoma. The Turnpike Troubadours were one of Rolling Stone Country‘s Artists You Need to Know for November.
