Watch Ed Sheeran Perform Sweet ‘Thinking Out Loud’ for ‘Austin City Limits’
Pop’s acoustic phenomenon Ed Sheeran recently made his Austin City Limits debut last fall, performing five songs for an intimate crowd. His episode became a fan favorite, with many requesting a re-broadcast of his performance. Prior to the encore, watch an exclusive clip of him performing the sweet, romantic single “Thinking Out Loud.”
Sheeran joins the long-running music program’s spectacular 40th season lineup, which included appearances from the Black Keys, Foo Fighters and Ryan Adams. Along with his current single, the British singer-songwriter treated his fans to live presentations of “Lego House,” “Don’t,” “A Team” and “Sing.” Like the majority of his live performances, Sheeran took to the stage solo accompanied only by guitar.
Earlier this year, Sheeran helped relaunch VH1 Storytellers with a special performance filmed in a Dublin, Ireland venue where he had once witnessed a “life-changing” Damien Rice show. His show consisted of a tribute to Don McLean as Sheeran covered McLean’s ode to Van Gogh, “Vincent.” In February, the X singer joined ELO onstage at the Grammy Awards following a performance of his own “Thinking Out Loud” alongside John Mayer on guitar and Questlove on drums.
Between his numerous TV appearances on awards shows and music programs, Sheeran has been headlining a mostly sold-out world tour. He’ll play three sold-out dates at London’s Wembley Stadium in July and had previously performed three sold-out dates at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in 2013.
The encore of Sheeran’s October ACL episode will air Saturday April 4th. Beck’s episode, the season premiere and another fan favorite, will have its encore on May 2nd. Currently, Austin City Limits is livestreaming Season 41 tapings, including Sleater-Kinney’s ACL debut on April 15th via the series’ YouTube channel.
