Watch Adele’s ‘Hello’ Video Narrated by Naturalist David Attenborough
Adele‘s long-awaited comeback single “Hello” has already garnered its fair share of remixes, but renowned naturalist and broadcaster, Sir David Attenborough, has outdone them all with his narration of the track’s moody video.
Attenborough delivered the performance during an interview with BBC Radio 1 host, Greg James, who assuaged the narrator’s fear that Adele might get cross with him. The 89-year-old with the voice of gold then set about introducing the green-tinted world of the “Hello” video with the hushed wonder he’s brought to countless documentaries.
In covering the clip’s short introduction, Attenborough delivered dulcet quips about Adele’s old Mini (“Money certainly hasn’t changed her”) and her much-discussed, very obsolete phone. While the singer struggles to get a signal, Attenborough marvels, “She hasn’t upgraded her handset since 1999 — hashtag flip phone!”
As Adele enters the old house, clears out the dusty room and prepares to sing, Attenborough closes the scene a perfectly prescient line. “We are about to witness one of the great phenomena of the natural world. It’s important for such a delicate and finely tuned animal that the lighting and setting is just right, and now it is. The lesser spotted Adele is about to be everywhere again.”
“Hello,” of course, marked the first song from Adele’s highly-anticipated new album, 25, set for release on November 20th.
