See Miranda Lambert’s Soulful, Girl-Powered ‘Shed a Little Light’
Miranda Lambert wrapped up her Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour last month, filling her final shows with one-off covers, unannounced guests and even a short-lived Pistol Annies reunion. During an October 3rd encore in Fayetteville, North Carolina, she brought most of the crew — including singers Ashley Monroe, Clare Dunn, Patty Loveless, Courtney Cole, Angaleena Presley and Gwen Sebastian — back to the stage for a show-closing, all-hands-on-deck version of Foy Vance‘s “Shed a Little Light.” Together, the group formed a country-gospel super-choir, taking Fayetteville’s Crown Coliseum to church on a Saturday night.
Above, Lambert kicks off “Shed a Little Light” alone, backed only by guitarist Alex Weeden. The video then skips ahead several seconds, cutting to a stage that’s filled with more than a half-dozen of her road mates. While singers like Presley and Loveless (who made an appearance earlier in the evening for a surprise duet of Four the Record‘s “Dear Diamond”) croon harmonies in the background, Monroe, Cole, Dunn and Sebastian all take turns at the mic. Lambert’s entire band gets a piece of the action, too, playing “Shed a Little Light” — originally released on Foy Vance’s 2007 debut, Hope — with tasteful restraint. The result is a performance that doesn’t shine a light on the tour’s headliner as much as the entire cast and crew, proof that it takes a village to keep a Roadside Bar in business.
