Jon Stewart Will Confront Seth Rollins on ‘WWE Raw’
After spending two weeks trading barbs – and the occasional headlock – Jon Stewart and pro wrestler Seth Rollins will continue their unlikely feud tonight on WWE‘s flagship show, Raw.
The news was confirmed by WWE, and comes just days after Rollins crashed The Daily Show to challenge Stewart, whom he called out during a February 16 edition of Raw. Seems Rollins, holder of the coveted Money in the Bank briefcase and self-proclaimed “future of WWE,” had designs on filling Stewart’s chair when the celebrated host departs from TDS later this year…a fact that didn’t sit well with the Heavyweight Champion of Fake News.
“Seth Rollins, you’ve made a lot of mistakes in your life: Being a turncoat to the Shield, being a toady for the Authority, not being able to choose which color your hair should be – but this is the biggest mistake you ever made,” Stewart shot back days later. “You just stepping in a world of hurt, my friend. I’m coming for you Rollins, and you’re gonna see it: 160 pounds of dynamite.”
Stewart would then add the caveat that “my bone density is not what it used to be,” and instead declared himself “160 pounds of wood, like a soft wood.”
Regardless, those words led to Rollins’ appearance on Thursday night’s Daily Show, where he interrupted Stewart’s traditional show-closing “Moment of Zen” to issue a challenge: “Shut your mouth and bring it.”
Now, the two will presumably come face-to-face inside the squared circle, and Stewart will probably be getting the rub from the crowd: Monday’s episode of Raw airs live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, just an hour north of his hometown of Lawrenceville. He’ll also be pulling double duty, as a new episode of The Daily Show will air Monday night on Comedy Central.
Will that be enough to overcome the machinations of Rollins and the heel faction he represents, the Authority, or will Stewart receive backup in the form of Rollins’ presumed WrestleMania opponent, Randy Orton? We’ll find out tonight, when WWE Raw airs live on the USA Network at 8 p.m. ET.
