Watch Rage Against the Machine Scorch London With ‘Bulls on Parade’
Rage Against the Machine unleash a scorching version of their 1996 anthem “Bulls on Parade” in a preview from upcoming concert DVD Live at Finsbury Park, out October 16th via Eagle Rock. The set, also available in Blu-Ray and digital form, documents the pioneering rap-metal band’s free London concert on June 6th, 2010.
Their take on “Bulls on Parade” – a highlight from Rage’s 1996 LP, Evil Empire – is full of the band’s trademarks: frontman Zack de la Rocha’s politically charged lyrics; guitarist Tom Morello’s wah-wah, distortion and turntable-scratching effects; Brad Wilk’s thunderous drums; and Tim Commerford’s funky bass. The clip, which features rapid-fire cuts of the quartet, peaks with a hyped-up de la Rocha yelling “Oh, shit!”
The show’s backstory is as wild as the performance itself: In 2009, British DJ Don Morter and wife Tracy launched a Facebook campaign aiming to stop the X-Factor winner from nabbing the Number One spot on the UK Single Chart. The couple nominated Rage’s signature tune “Killing in the Name,” urging fans to buy the track in an attempt to claim the top spot. The band planned to play a free show if the campaign paid off, and when “Killing” rose to Number One, the quartet made good on that promise.
The 12-track Live at Finsbury Park, available for pre-order on iTunes, features other Rage classics like “Killing in the Name,” “Guerilla Radio” and “Sleep Now in the Fire.” The DVD/Blu-Ray versions include a behind-the-scenes extra and interview with the Morters.
