Watch Rihanna, Kanye and McCartney on ‘FourFiveSeconds’ Video Shoot
A week after Rihanna dropped her surprise “FourFiveSeconds” collaboration with Kanye West and Paul McCartney, the Unapologetic singer unveiled a two-minute, behind-the-scenes look at the track’s music video shoot. In the sneak peek, Rihanna firmly lays claim to “FourFiveSeconds,” calling it “the first song my fans are going to hear from the new album.”
The video, shot in New York City in late December, finds Rihanna and West rocking out “FourFiveSeconds” in front of a white screen while McCartney strums the track’s acoustic riff. The fashion photography team of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin directed the video; the pair also recently photographed the cover of Björk’s Vulnicura.
All three artists are wearing denim in the video – in Rihanna’s case, a vintage Sean John jacket that is “fucking major” – but the “Umbrella” singer says the choice of fabric was an artistic decision. “Kanye came up with the idea of just doing some real street, denim, all-American-type look,” Rihanna says. “Denim never goes out of style. It’s classic, it’s iconic, just like the fucking Beatles.”
The behind-the-scenes video concludes without Rihanna putting a date on when the final “FourFiveSeconds” music video or her still-untitled eighth studio album might arrive. A rep for Rihanna previously told Rolling Stone that “FourFiveSeconds” would also appear on West’s upcoming album, but the rapper admitted on Ellen earlier this week that his LP is still a work in progress.
“We’re still trying to find it. Trying to find the vibe,” West said of the album. “This transition from what I felt when I did Yeezus to what I feel now, and we’re just creating, so we haven’t found it yet.” One thing we know about West’s next album: Contrary to rumors, it was not entirely co-produced by McCartney, reps for both the rapper and the singer told Rolling Stone.
