Faith No More, Noel Gallagher to Headline Canadian Music Week
Since 1981, Canadian Music Week has invaded Toronto, Ontario, packing the city’s venues with both big-name artists and emerging acts. The 2015 incarnation of CMW is the festival’s biggest yet, as over 1,000 artists will perform in 60 of Toronto’s venues over the course of 10 days running from May 1st to May 10th.
This year’s CMW slate will include Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, John Mellencamp, the Jesus and Mary Chain celebrating the 30th anniversary of Psychocandy and Faith No More, who recently announced their first North American tour in five years.
Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts, King Tuff, FIDLAR, Cloud Nothings as well as Canadian artists like Ron Sexsmith, Kiesza and Magic! are also on the CMW bill. Wristbands for the fest, which also doubles as a networking event for the music industry, are on sale now through February 4th at the CMW site for a special early bird rate.
Wristband holders will also have the opportunity to enter into “The CMW Concert Lottery,” with winners guaranteed entrance into some of CMW’s most desired gigs like Faith No More, Mellencamp and High Flying Birds.
By comparison, the 2014 CMW only stretched five days, half the length of this year’s festival. M.I.A., Television, Tegan and Sara, Neko Case and Ellie Goulding were among the headlining acts at last year’s Canadian Music Week.
The Toronto performance will be the opening stop on the Jesus and Mary Chain’s brief Psychocandy tour. “Psychocandy was meant to be a kick in the teeth to all of those who stood in our way at the time, which was practically the whole music industry,” vocalist and guitarist Jim Reid said in a statement. “In 1985, there were a great many people who predicted no more than a six-month lifespan for the Mary Chain.”
