Fall Out Boy Take Jock Jams to Basketball Court in ‘Irresistible’ Video
Never ones to shy away from camp and comedy in their visuals, Fall Out Boy‘s video for new single “Irresistible” is the latest to show off the band’s silly side.
In the clip, the band shows up to a public basketball court in their brightest short-shorts to challenge the much taller and more skilled home team. The boys may be losing hard, but they know how to rile up the crowd, gaining cheers for every missed shot and every stumble they so gleefully make. As singer Patrick Stump belts out “I love the way you hurt me baby,” he loses a hand while an inflatable Pete Wentz crashes to the ground.
Showing off their more athletic skills aligns well with the band’s recent ascendance to Jock Jam all-stars. Songs like Save Rock and Roll‘s “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” and American Beauty/American Psycho‘s “Centuries” have not only helped catapult the band back into the Top 40 following a three-year hiatus, but they’ve become arena sport staples for everything from college football season to Nascar races.
“Irresistible,” with its lively, hip-hop-lite beat tinged with hard rock guitar riffs, is the fourth single from American Beauty/American Psycho, the band’s sixth studio album that was released in January. “I think the new record represents where we want to be, but it also represents us understanding that, if you want to be a part of pop art, you need to work,” said Wentz in an interview with Rolling Stone. This summer, the band will be co-headlining a tour with rapper Wiz Khalifa.
