T.I. Apologizes for ‘Unequivocally Insensitive’ Hillary Clinton Remark
T.I. has apologized for questioning whether Hillary Clinton or any other woman could handle being president, tweeting, “My comments about women running for president were unequivocally insensitive and wrong. I sincerely apologize to everyone I offended.”
As Entertainment Weekly reports, T.I. made the remarks while discussing the 2016 election during an interview with DJ Whoo Kid on his SiriusXM show, “The Whoolywood Shuffle” on Shade 45 (the video of the interview has since been made private).
“Not to be sexist, but I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman,” the rapper said. “Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well. But, the president? It’s kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally – they make very permanent, cemented decisions — and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen, or they didn’t mean for it to happen.”
After expressing concern over whether foreign leaders would take a female president seriously during policy negotiations — despite Clinton doing just that as secretary of state — T.I. tried to qualify his remarks, adding: “The world ain’t ready yet. I think you might be able to get the Loch Ness Monster elected before [a woman]. It’s not right, but I’m just saying.”
Prior to his comments about female candidates, T.I. offered a somewhat favorable analysis of Donald Trump, saying the real estate mogul could help America if he is “sincerely concerned about the economy.” Still, the rapper stopped short of supporting Trump due to the candidate’s streak of racist comments.
“His racist remarks and all of his off-color statements and all that shit … makes it impossible to be completely supportive of him,” the rapper added. “But just knowing what he’s done for business for himself, if he intends to do that for America, it would be beneficial. But I can’t cash no vote for him.”
