Watch the Arcs Rip Through ‘Outta My Mind’ on ‘Late Show’
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert closed out its third week on the air with musical guests the Arcs as the Black Keys‘ Dan Auerbach and company performed their Yours, Dreamily single “Outta My Mind.” With the music video’s psychedelic light show emanating in the background, the Arcs delivered a riveting take on the track, including a killer Auerbach guitar solo.
As Auerbach told Rolling Stone, the Arcs allow the singer to tap into his “Deadhead side,” and the band’s electric live performances showcase that musicianship. “The Arcs scratch that itch for me — and when we play live, it’s going to be magnified,” Auerbach said. “These guys are so crazy-capable. We all got together and played recently, and it was so fucking exciting. There was a lot of improvisation, which is new for me.”
“It’s a completely different thing than the Black Keys, where I write the lyrics, the chords and most of the melodies,” Auerbach also said of his new project, which features musicians Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss and Nick Movshon, along with guests Kenny Vaughan and Mariachi Flor de Toloache. “Every song on this record is co-written with the whole band. That’s why I didn’t call it my name. I love being able to sit back and let songs evolve without me. It’s been a new experience.”
The Arcs have one more New York show – Saturday night at the Bowery Ballroom, a gig that will be livestreamed on Yahoo! – before embarking on a two-week European tour in November. The Arcs will return stateside for a 12-gig tour that kicks off December 1st at Minneapolis’ First Avenue.
