Keith Richards Trades Stadiums for Studios in New ‘Trouble’ Video
Keith Richards grins as he settles into a groove with fellow guitarist Waddy Wachtel and drummer Steve Jordan in his video for “Trouble.” The track, which finds Richards singing about a hot mess of a friend, will appear on the Rolling Stone‘s first solo album in 23 years, Crosseyed Heart, due out September 18th.
“I had a ball making this new record and working with Steve Jordan and Waddy Wachtel again,” Richards said in a statement. “There’s nothing like walking into a studio and having absolutely no idea what you’re going to come out with on the other end. If you’re looking for ‘Trouble,’ you’ve come to the right place.”
Morgan Neville, who directed the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, helmed the clip. The video was shot in Germano Studios, the New York City studio where much of Crosseyed Heart was recorded. Richards also plays bass alongside lead and back-up vocals on the recording.
Along with Wachtel and Jordan, the latter of whom co-produced the record, the rest of the LP features appearances by Norah Jones, Spooner Oldham, Aaron Neville and Larry Campbell. Late Stones saxophonist Bobby Keys will also appear on two tracks.
As of April, Richards was considering touring behind Crosseyed Heart, which he premiered for a small group of people in New York City recently. He also told Rolling Stone he hoped to get back in the studio with his main band. “I’d like to see just how far they can evolve,” Richards said of the band. “I have no demands or particular visions for them, but you’re just part of this thing and I want to see how far it will go.”
