Metric Proclaim ‘Too Bad, So Sad’ on Celebratory New Song
Toronto indie rock mainstays Metric strive towards snapping through the monotony and loneliness of life on their emphatic, celebratory new song, “Too Bad, So Sad,” off their upcoming LP, Pagans in Vegas (via Spin).
Like previously released cuts “Cascades” and “The Shade,” Metric continue to explore the synth-pop spectrum on “Too Bad, So Sad,” in which percolating, whinnying synth lines interweave with pounding drums and a simple, but stadium-sized, guitar riff. Singer Emily Haines, meanwhile, delivers an wide-ranging vocal performance, sounding pensive and subdued one moment, before releasing the most vehement “Woo hoo!” since Blur’s “Song 2.”
Pagans in Vegas arrives on September 18th and marks Metric’s first album since 2012’s Synthetica. Along with the LP — which is available to pre-order now — the band is also dropping a cassette EP, featuring “Cascades,” “The Shade,” “Too Bad, So Sad” and “Office Towers Escalate.”
The band is also teasing a “time capsule” package that will include Pagans in Vegas on cassette as well as various merchandise and exclusive content curated by the band. Pre-orders for that edition will begin in early August and come with a digital copy of the album, as well.
Metric are currently on the road opening for Imagine Dragons, and will continue to tour with the rock outfit through early August. The band is scheduled to play a handful of North American festival dates towards the end of the summer before embarking on a European trek in October.
