Watch Dead Weather Storm ‘Colbert’ With ‘I Feel Love’
After some early morning drama, Jack White and the Dead Weather headed to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Monday to deliver their track “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles),” the first single off their upcoming LP Dodge and Burn. For Alison Mosshart and company, the visit marked the band’s first live performance in over five years, with their last appearance being an August 2010 episode of Late Show With David Letterman.
Things began normally enough for Dead Weather‘s appearance until a special lighting effect sapped all of the color out of the frame. This left a simple palette of black, white and purple and turned the Late Show visit into a live version of the band’s color-dodging “I Feel Love” performance video. As Colbert rapturously told the audience after the killer performance, Dodge and Burn, the follow-up to 2010’s Sea of Cowards, arrives September 25th.
The Late Show visit capped off an eventful Monday for White, who found himself reigniting his long-standing feud with the Black Keys after allegedly trying to fight that band’s drummer Patrick Carney at a New York bar. Carney accused the rocker of bullying in a Twitter tirade, while White defended himself in a statement where he told Carney to “quit whining to the Internet and speak face to face like a human being.”
However, by noon, the two had hashed things out over the course of a one-hour phone call. “From one musician to another, you have my respect, Patrick Carney,” White’s Third Man Records tweeted, putting an end to the flare-up.
