My Morning Jacket Get Trippy at Red Rocks in ‘Compound Fracture’ Video
My Morning Jacket put a kaleidoscopic spin on their legendary live shows, mixing on-stage and behind-the-scenes footage in the new video for The Waterfall track, “Compound Fracture.”
Veteran photographer and director Danny Clinch helmed the clip, which is centered around MMJ’s August concert at Colorado’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheater. Blending footage of the gorgeous scenery surrounding Red Rocks with the enraptured audience and My Morning Jacket‘s pre-show routine and performance, Clinch crafts a psychedelic collage that captures the band’s potent, vibrant on-stage aura.
The “Compound Fracture” clip marks the first video from My Morning Jacket’s latest album, The Waterfall. The group spent much of the summer touring North America and Europe in support of the LP, playing a number of festival sets including Bonnaroo, Governors Ball and Forecastle. The group also showed up at the Newport Folk Festival where they served as Roger Waters’ backing band.
Despite the lengthy trek, My Morning Jacket kick off another stateside leg Wednesday at the Keller Auditorium in Portland. The tour concludes with a four-night stand at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on November 24th, 25th, 27th and 28th.
The Waterfall marks My Morning Jacket’s first album since 2011’s Circuital and was recorded at a secluded mansion at Stinson Beach in Northern California. Initial recording was disrupted when frontman Jim James suffered a herniated disc while moving an amp, but the injury proved to be a catalyst for so many new songs, the band told Rolling Stone they expect to release another album next year.
“They are influenced by specific situations, but I’d rather not talk about it, because I want love in my life,” James said of the album’s dark subject matter. “In recent years, I’ve been trying to figure out, ‘What have I done wrong in every relationship I’ve been in until now?’ and tried to make them better.”
