Bruce Springsteen Announces New Leg of ‘The River’ Tour
Bruce Springsteen has announced an additional 14 dates for his ongoing River tour with the E Street Band, plus a March 28th makeup show for the Madison Square Garden gig he was forced to postpone due to Winter Storm Jonas. The new batch of dates begins March 19th at the Los Angeles Memorial Arena and wraps up April 25th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Tickets sales begin this Saturday.
The River tour began with the idea of promoting the recently released The Ties That Bind: The River Collection with a single promotional show. “Then that went quick to, ‘Maybe we should do a couple of shows,'” Springsteen told E Street Radio in December. “Then it turns into, ‘Maybe we should do a small series of shows, basically one-nighters, with maybe a little bit around the country.'”
The tour began on January 16th with a blazing three-and-a-half hour show in Pittsburgh. Like every show of the tour, it began with a complete performance of The River. Springsteen and a slimmed-down lineup of the E Street Band then played 90 minutes of classics, including “Badlands,” “Born To Run” and “Backstreets” as well as a tribute to David Bowie. The tour continued on January 19th at the United Center in Chicago. The post-River section contained a slightly different block of songs, including “Night,” “No Surrender” and “Human Touch.” He also honored the late Glenn Frey with a performance of “Take It Easy.”
One month after the final show of the tour’s U.S. leg, Springsteen and the E Street Band will head to Lisbon, Portugal to headline Rock in Rio Lisboa, the band’s only scheduled European show so far.
