Watch Ashley Monroe Deliver Dark ‘I Buried Your Love Alive’ on ‘Conan’
Ashley Monroe made a late-night appearance on Conan on Wednesday, unveiling another of the tracks from her acclaimed new LP The Blade. The Tennessee native and her band, all dressed in black, delivered a darkly seductive version of “I Buried Your Love Alive,” which Monroe penned with Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Matraca Berg.
The tune, about doing whatever’s necessary to forget a love that just won’t die, joins a handful of others Monroe has performed for TV audiences recently. She’s also currently on tour with Little Big Town, after the postponement of several dates due to the group’s Jimi Westbrook undergoing vocal cord surgery. Although the songwriter, who had a hand in composing every track on her LP with the exception of “The Blade,” enjoys writing, recording and performing live, she admits the latter can be challenging under certain circumstances.
“The singing live part I probably agonize over the most, only because I’m yearning to be in front of my audience, which I have been more lately,” she tells Rolling Stone Country. “It’s hard for me to sing the kind of songs I sing to people who aren’t listening or paying attention and just want to dance to something they know. That part can get frustrating. But. . .I did a show for NPR in New York where people were closing their eyes and just feeling it. That’s so rewarding when I’m in front of my crowd. I love the recording process and I love the delivery — except for the people who are talking so loud that you can’t even hear yourself!”
In addition to Monroe’s stint with Little Big Town, she has several upcoming dates with Rascal Flatts and Miranda Lambert, along with a series of solo shows beginning in October.
