Lil B Accepts Tryout Offer From Philadelphia 76ers’ D-League Team
Lil B – Bay Area rapper, Based God and Bernie Sanders supporter – made plenty of waves during the NBA Playoffs when he cursed LeBron James and J.R. Smith for their hubris, and though he’d subsequently lift the bad juju on LBJ, apparently the rest of the league was paying attention.
Or at least the D-League was. Because on Tuesday, the Delaware 87ers, the Philadelphia 76ers’ developmental squad, extended a tryout invitation to B. All he has to do is show up at the New Castle Police Athletic League facility on September 19, where he’ll compete alongside other hoops hopefuls for a spot on the team. Oh, and as they tweeted, he’d better bring his game – though they were careful to show proper respect whilst doing so, signing off with an abbreviated “Thank You, Based God.”
Not surprisingly, Lil B accepted the offer, noting that current Charlotte Hornet Jeremy Lin had paid his dues in the D-League (he was a member of the Reno Bighorns) before breaking out as a member of the New York Knicks and striking it rich with a three-year, $25 million contract from the Houston Rockets.

Of course, this isn’t Lil B’s first D-League opportunity. Back in 2012, he showed up at open tryouts for his hometown Golden State Warriors’ developmental team, the Santa Cruz Warriors. He didn’t make the cut, but he did provide a local news crew with a thoroughly Based sound bite: “Just putting my skills to the test, supporting Bay Area teams and just spreading that love.”
Regardless of whether he makes the 87ers, Lil B is still a man to be feared in the Association: Just ask James Harden and Kevin Durant, two players he’s previously cursed for drawing the ire of the Based God.
