Hear Lana Del Rey’s Hypnotic New Song, ‘Terrence Loves You’
Lana Del Rey is paralyzed by loss on her hypnotic new track, “Terrence Loves You.” “I lost myself when I lost you,” she sings over piano and moaning saxophone. “But I still got jazz when I’ve got those blues.” The song, which teases the lyrics to David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” (“Ground Control to Major Tom”), is Del Rey’s latest tease of her upcoming fourth LP, Honeymoon, out September 18th.
The singer also revealed the album’s cover art, which features Del Rey sprawled out in a “StarLine Tours” cab. The phone number listed on the vehicle – 1-800-268-7886 – is inactive, but Stereogum reports that dialing may later activate a “Honeymoon Hotline.”
Last month, Del Rey released Honeymoon‘s string-coated title-track, the album’s first single. That ballad found the singer exploring more themes of tortured romance: “We both know the history of violence that surrounds you,” she sings. “But I’m not scared, there’s nothing to lose now that I’ve found you.” Del Rey followed with the synth-driven “High By the Beach,” which she paired with a campy clip days later.
The singer announced her album title in a January interview with Billboard. “It’s very different from the last one and similar to the first two, Born to Die and Paradise,” she explained of the sound. “It’s growing into something I really like. I’m kind of enjoying sinking into this more noirish feel for this one. It’s been good.”
The 13-track LP will close with a cover of Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.”
