Watch Roger Waters’ Updated ‘What God Wants’ Video
Roger Waters will reissue his 1992 LP, Amused to Death, on July 24th, and Rolling Stone has the exclusive on the updated music video for the remastered album’s “What God Wants, Part 1.” The clip features Waters and guitarist Jeff Beck, who appears on a handful of Amused to Death tracks, performing the track live in a studio setting.
The video originally debuted in 1992, but in keeping with the bolstered sound of the reissue, the “What Gods Wants” clip gets a visual updating with enhanced graphics, crisper black-and-white footage, a widescreen presentation and better sound and imagery that captures Amused to Death’s anti-television and anti-war themes.
In a statement, Waters said of Amused to Death, “I’m remembering the record from [over] 20 years ago, that most of what I had to say then sadly still pertains today and is maybe even more relevant to our predicament as people in 2015 even than it was in 1992.”
The Amused to Death CD/Blu-ray reissue will feature a new 5.1 surround remix of the record on high-definition Blu-ray audio and a new remastered stereo mix completed by longtime Roger Waters/Pink Floyd collaborator and co-producer James Guthrie. The original album cover has also been updated by Sean Evans, who served as the creative director for Waters’ The Wall tour and upcoming concert film. Amused to Death will also be pressed as a 2LP 200-gram vinyl as well as a limited-edition and numbered 2LP picture disc edition.
On the same day that the Amused to Death reissue arrives, Waters will make his first ever Newport Folk Festival appearance by headlining that Friday night. The former Pink Floyd bassist has promised to craft a “very special” set list especially curated for the Rhode Island fest.
