Julian Casablancas + the Voidz Cancel North American Tour
Julian Casablancas + the Voidz have canceled 11 North American tour dates, citing production issues. The Strokes frontman’s new band – who released their debut LP, Tyranny, last year – released a vaguely worded statement on the cancellation, Exclaim! reports.
“With great regret, we need to cancel our upcoming shows in North America. We had set out to do something a bit different with these shows and create more of an experience that would be inspiring to our fans as well as to the band. In order to make this work, we needed many pieces to fall into place that just didn’t,” the band wrote, signing off as “humbleLords.”
The Voidz promised ticket buyers full refunds for the shows and noted, “We are going to regroup and re-approach this in the way it was intended, and soon.” The new jaunt was scheduled to kick off September 8th in Pioneertown, California, with sporadic dates set throughout the month and October.
Tyranny is Casablancas’ second solo album, following 2009’s Phrazes the Young, and first project with his new backing band. The singer-songwriter spent over two years crafting the material, recording across seven months in a studio above New York’s Strand Bookstore. “We’d listen to a world-music song and a metal song, and we wanted to bridge those gaps,” Casablancas told Rolling Stone of the LP’s eclectic breadth.
Casablancas has also been working with his better-known band, the Strokes, in recent months. “It’s the first time we’ve been exclusively writing since [2013’s] Comedown Machine,” Casablancas told Noisey in April. “We’re planning on recording stuff. I still think we could do cool things and I’ll do that.”
