Hear Lana Del Rey’s Wistful New Song ‘Honeymoon’
Just over a year since the release of her most recent album Ultraviolence, Lana Del Rey has released a new single, “Honeymoon,” her first song off her upcoming LP of the same name.
The lyric video begins with the song’s overture soundtracking a grainy, Seventies-style home video of Del Rey lounging in the grass near a highway. The lyrics are then displayed on a pink background accented by flowers.
The cinematic song largely follows Ultraviolence‘s nostalgic themes of tortured romance. “We both know the history of violence that surrounds you,” she sings. “But I’m not scared, there’s nothing to lose now that I’ve found you.” For the chorus, Del Rey sweetly sings “our honeymoon” repeatedly.
The singer confirmed her third album in January, revealing the title and progress to Billboard. “It’s very different from the last one and similar to the first two, Born to Die and Paradise,” she detailed. “It’s growing into something I really like. I’m kind of enjoying sinking into this more noirish feel for this one. It’s been good.” Del Rey also revealed that she would include a cover of Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” on Honeymoon.
Del Rey toured with Courtney Love in May and Grimes in June in support of Ultraviolence. She has also made the festival rounds, playing Sasquatch and Governors Ball. Late last year, she contributed two new ballads to Tim Burton’s film Big Eyes and had previously contributed songs to the soundtracks for The Great Gatsby and Maleficent.
