Hear ARO’s Melancholic LCD Soundsystem ‘I Can Change’ Cover
Synth-pop artist ARO, whose name hails from her initials Aimée Rachel Osbourne, has released the follow-up single to 2015’s “Raining Gold.” Her melancholic cover of LCD Soundsystem’s “I Can Change” is among the new material she and her bandmates will perform during her forthcoming show next month at Echo in Los Angeles and showcase appearances at Austin’s South by Southwest Music conference in March.
“Making a cover can be tricky. You choose a song because you love it and not because you necessarily think you can do a better job, just a different one. It was really important that I made this cover my own, I intuitively believed I could,” ARO told Nylon Magazine of her rendition of the song. “So when I first played my version to people, I didn’t tell them it was a cover, I wanted the most honest reaction. No one figured it out right away, I knew then that I had achieved something special with covering this incredible song.”
In May, ARO spoke with Rolling Stone about her foray into music and her famous parents. The eldest daughter of Ozzy and Sharon, she initially eschewed the spotlight when she turned down participating in reality show, The Osbournes.
“I don’t think I will ever cross-contaminate my private life and my family life with my public and professional worlds,” she told Rolling Stone. “For me, nothing’s more important than having a very clear boundary between the two. That’s just part of who I am.”
ARO will perform at Echo in Los Angeles on February 9th as part of Neon Gold’s West Coast lineup. She and her band head to South by Southwest in March, followed by the release of a newly-completed EP and a North American tour later this spring.
