Loretta Lynn, Jack White Tapped for Nashville Walk of Fame
Country queen Loretta Lynn and rock provocateur Jack White have been announced as the newest inductees into the revamped Music City Walk of Fame, Nashville’s version of the famous Hollywood landmark.
Decorative plaques will be embedded in the sidewalk stretching between the vibrant tourist areas downtown and country’s traditional headquarters on Music Row, about a mile away. According to Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, Lynn and White will attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly improved Walk of Fame Park, a public space used for festivals and concerts across the street from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The park previously held all of the Walk of Fame markers, but was running out of room.
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the reopening of Walk of Fame Park than with the induction of Loretta Lynn and Jack White — two very diverse artists,” said Dean. “They represent what is best about Nashville with music that spans multiple genres and generations. They are great ambassadors for the creative community in our city.”
Envisioned as a “tribute to those from all genres of music who have made significant contributions to preserving the musical heritage of Nashville and have contributed to the world through song or other industry collaboration,” the Walk of Fame will include 63 markers with the addition of Lynn and White.
Earlier inductees include the likes of Elvis Presley, Alan Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton and Kris Kristofferson.
In January, Lynn and White — who have been close confidants since the rocker produced the country queen’s 2004 album, Van Lear Rose — reprised their “Portland, Oregon” duet onstage at the Bridgestone Arena. Both have hinted they’d love to work together again soon.
