Zipper Down
Boogie-rock revivalists Eagles of Death Metal — a.k.a. high-school buddies Jesse Hughes and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme — have always been silly and self-aware. With their fourth album, they’ve reached a critical mass of smirk. On “Silverlake (K.S.O.F.M.),” Hughes lampoons L.A. hipster culture amid Kiss-style riffs, declaring, “I am from Silver Lake, and I am in a cool band/Don’t you know who I am?” Elsewhere, they tackle the topic of literal boogieing on three separate tunes (including “Skin Tight Boogie”) and toss in an irreverent, spaghetti Western-style cover of Duran Duran’s “Save a Prayer.” Luckily, their shtick is entertaining enough that it never gets too annoying.
