See Hank Williams Jr.’s Reflective ‘Just Call Me Hank’
Hank Williams Jr.‘s 37th album It’s About Time is out today, marking the country legend’s first full-length release since 2012’s Old School New Rules. Released through the new Big Machine offshoot Nash Icon, It’s About Time showcases the 50-year music veteran in unapologetic, unfiltered form.
But on the somber “Just Call Me Hank,” Williams dials back his bravado for a moment of humility. “Don’t call me an icon, I don’t care about the Hall of Fame,” he insists, sounding comfortable with his own legacy. Williams filmed a special acoustic performance of the song at his Paris, Tennessee, cabin that will air in the Audience Network special Hank Williams Jr.: It’s About Time.
“That thing came so fast, five minutes again, in a pickup in northwest Tennessee by Kentucky Lake going to the farm at 7:15 in the morning,” Williams told Rolling Stone Country recently. “And these kind of words come along? ‘Uh, oh wait a minute. I better pull over and write some of this down.’ I called a guy who’s been with me a long time, I gave him some words, then I called daughter Holly and gave her some words. This guy is bawling, Holly’s bawling, I’m bawling…everybody is bawling.”
Hank Williams Jr.: It’s About Time will air Sunday, January 17th, at 9 p.m. ET on Audience Network. The episode, which also features an intimate interview with Williams, will encore January 22nd.
