See Old Crow Medicine Show’s Behind-the-Scenes Show Prep
Like the country music equivalent of New York’s ball drop in Times Square, Nashville has been treated to annual Old Crow Medicine Show gigs nearly every New Year’s Eve since 2009. This year was no exception, with the band playing a two-night stand at the Ryman Auditorium.
“I don’t wanna ring in the New Year downtown in front of 100,000 people,” explains frontman Ketch Secor in a behind-the-scenes video filmed before the recent year-end show. “I wanna do it here at the Ryman. That’s where I belong. And there’s where this music belongs. And that’s where Nashville belongs.”
Members of the Grand Ole Opry since 2013, Old Crow Medicine Show‘s bandmates clown around backstage, sign posters, practice their harmonies and attempt to moonwalk in the above clip. Throughout the video, Secor mixes his reverence for the Ryman Auditorium — a longtime staple of the city’s country scene — with a lighthearted approach to his own band.
Old Crow Medicine Show will take a break from the road this winter, with the band scheduled to kick off a very light touring season at MerleFest in April.
