Watch Jamie Foxx’s Perfect John Legend Impression on ‘Tonight Show’
Grammy and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx flexed both his musical and comedic talents while partaking in a game of “Wheel of Musical Impressions” on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
The late-night talk show’s game has Fallon and his guest hitting a button to get a random pairing of a famous singer with a jingle, TV show theme or children’s song. Foxx started off the game by singing The Lion King‘s “Hakuna Matata” in the style of Mick Jagger, strutting across the stage and perfectly imitating the Rolling Stones’ singer’s flamboyant swagger. Fallon then revived his Barry Gibb impression for a solid take on the Barney theme song “I Love You, You Love Me.”
The pitch perfect installment’s highlight, however, was Foxx singing the “Toys R Us” jingle in the style of fellow R&B crooner John Legend. For nearly three minutes, Foxx nailed Legend’s soulful vocal style on the single before going into a cover of Legend’s hit “All of Me.” The impression devolved into a bit on Legend’s full performance style. “And he don’t ever get excited,” Foxx said before hitting a high note and quickly wrapping it up to make a more serious expression on his face.
The segment wrapped up with Fallon delivering his most patriotic version of Bruce Springsteen singing the America’s Funniest Home Videos theme, Foxx riffing on Clippers coach Doc Rivers’ raspy voice and one last impression from the actor and singer: “On Top of Spaghetti” in the booming, bombastic style of Jennifer Hudson.
Foxx appeared on The Tonight Show to promote his new album Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses, his first LP in 5 years.
