Jack White Plots Secret Acoustic Concerts
Geographical enthusiast Jack White has just announced plans for a short run of acoustic concerts in the five states he’s never played before. He’s keeping each show a secret until the day of the performance, which he will publicize at 8 a.m. local time via his website and social media accounts. Tickets will cost $3 – cash only and available only at the venue at noon that day – and will be limited to one per person.
White will be accompanied by three musicians – Fats Kaplin, Lillie Mae Rische and Dominic Davis – who, with him, will make up an acoustic quartet. They will be amplified only by ribbon microphones, making these shows the only totally acoustic concerts White has ever played.
The singer-guitarist will embark on the tour following his second Coachella appearance this weekend. The festival kicked off last weekend, when White performed a career-spanning set – which is available to watch here. The set contained numerous White Stripes songs, as well as a cover of Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.”
Although White has been busy touring – including a turn at playing Led Zeppelin’s “The Lemon Song” with that band’s Robert Plant – he’s also embarked on a number of other ventures recently. He recently spent $300,000 on Elvis Presley’s “My Happiness” acetate, the singer’s first recording, which White intends to reissue on Record Store Day. He’s co-executive producing American Epic, a documentary about primitive recording devices from the 1920s. And he’s one of the recently announced co-owners of the high-res streaming service Tidal, of which he owns an equal share alongside Madonna, Jay Z, Rihanna, Beyoncé and others.
