Maroon 5 Drop Revealing ‘This Summer’s Gonna Hurt’ Video
Maroon 5‘s new music video for their surprise single “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like a Motherfucker” dropped late Saturday night, and the clip is revealing for two reasons. First, it offers a candid look at life on tour through the eyes of Adam Levine as the viewer journeys with the singer from the dressing room to backstage to the edge of the catwalk at a massive arena. Secondly, the video is revealing because Levine flashes some unexpected nudity in “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like a Motherfucker.”
The NSFW moment arrives very early in the video as Levine emerges from a pre-show shower and begins getting dressed for the concert. The grainy, black-and-white video, directed by “Travis and Adam,” was seemingly filmed in one take and provides an intimate glimpse at the complex mechanics and precise timing of touring, as well as the thrill of walking out on stage to tens of thousands of fans. The recently shot video was filmed at London’s SSE Arena – formerly Wembley Arena – on either May 26th or 28th, as Maroon 5 played a pair of gigs there that included the first two concert performances of “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like a Motherfucker.”
“Oops… We dropped our new video…,” Maroon 5 tweeted Saturday night. The single, a bonus track from the band’s 2014 album V, originally arrived with a lyric video that showcased its biting takedown of a girl who has become too self-involved. “I see her when I go to sleep/I check my phone when I am weak,” Levine sings on the bitter track. “She never posts anything deep/’Cause she’s so fancy.” Maroon 5 also debuted the song live on the May 19th episode of The Voice.
