Dave Grohl Joins Hardcore Band Bl’ast! for First New Music in 20 Years
Long dormant hardcore act Bl’ast! have unleashed their new two-track EP For Those Who’ve Graced the Fire!, the Santa Cruz band’s first new music in over 20 years. For the EP, original Bl’ast! members Cliff Dinsmore and Mike Neider teamed up with founding Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski and Dave Grohl, who played drums, mixed and recorded the EP at his Studio 606.
Dukowski and Grohl were filling in for new Bl’ast! members drummer Joey Castillo and former bassist Nick Oliveri, two Queens of the Stone Age vets who had to fulfill touring obligations at the time of recording. The EP, featuring the blistering, pulverizing title track and the thrashing, one-minute “The Pulse,” is available now as a digital download via Rise Records.
Dinsmore, Neider, Castillo and Oliveri are currently working on Bl’ast!’s first full-length LP since 1989’s Take the Manic Ride. Bl’ast!’s original lineup released three LPs on the famed SST Records label, including their 1986 debut The Power of Expression and their influential 1987 album It’s In My Blood. In 2013, Grohl re-mixed, re-mastered and re-released that album simply as Blood!.
The For Those Who’ve Graced the Fire! EP will be available as a limited edition “blood red” 7″ vinyl single on October 30th. The EP will also be bundled with Bl’ast! shirts at the Rise Records online store. Those who pre-order For Those Who’ve Graced the Fire! will receive an immediate download of the EP’s two tracks.
