Watch an Exclusive Preview of Sammy Hagar on ‘The Simpsons’
Over the past 25 years, The Simpsons has featured guest appearances by everybody from George Harrison and Michael Jackson to Katy Perry and Lady Gaga — and this Sunday, Sammy Hagar will join their ranks when he voices himself on a new episode. The plot revolves around Homer and other Springfield dads starting a cover band after Moe’s Tavern shuts down.
“When I got the script, I was laughing and cracking up,” says Hagar. “It was a blast…the Simpsons universe has had some of the greatest rock stars of all time. Just to be one of those guys, I’m happy with that. You could just end it right there.”
The former Van Halen singer recently announced plans to play a free New Year’s Eve concert at the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Los Cabos, Mexico. He has no other dates on the books for next year, though he recently told Rolling Stone that he hopes to hit the road for a limited run of dates with his new band Sammy Hagar & The Circle, which features former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer Jason Bonham.
“We call ourselves the Circle because this band has kinda taken me full circle in my career,” he says. “I can play from every era, from Montrose to Van Halen to solo, Chickenfoot and some Led Zeppelin. In Chickenfoot, we didn’t play songs by the Chili Peppers or Van Halen, but the Circle plays my whole world and everyone else’s world that’s in the band. It’s been really special so far.”
