Danzig, Flaming Lips, Louis C.K. to Guest on ‘Portlandia’
Portland sketch comedy series Portlandia has announced another all-star guest lineup for its sixth season, with a mix of artists, comedians and actors. Starring Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen, it premieres on January 21st on IFC at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
This season will feature Glenn Danzig, who recently released his Danzig Legacy film, and the Flaming Lips, who are no strangers to acting themselves having put out their sci-fi Christmas on Mars film in 2008. Lenny Kravitz’ daughter Zoë (Dope, Mad Max) will also appear on the show.
Additional non-music-related guests include Louis C.K. (Louie), Jillian Bell (Workaholics), Gregory Gourdet (Top Chef), Moshe Kasher (Another Period), John Levenstein (Kroll Show), NPR’s Kai Ryssdal, Robert Smigel (Saturday Night Live) and Bitsie Tulloch (rimm). There are also Arrested Development cast and crew heading to Portland, including creator Mitchell Hurwitz and Alia Shawkat.
The show looks to be continuing its satirical sendup of Portland with Brownstein and Armisen’s myriad characters often deadpanning their way through hilarious bits. According to the IFC website, Doug and Claire break up, Dave and Kath run a marathon and “Fred turns grey overnight and, in seeking answers from the universe, gets sucked into a black hole.”
Kyle MacLachlan will reprise his role as mayor and this season he “tries to lure a tech company to Portland and also puts the moves on Carrie with a canister of frozen sperm from his office refrigerator.” Other returning guests include Steve Buscemi, Orange is the New Black‘s Natasha Lyonne and Silicon Valley‘s Kumail Nanjiani.
