Liam Gallagher Defends One Direction After Noel Jab
Of all the spats Noel and Liam Gallagher have had over the years — including one that involved a cricket bat — their latest centers around an unlikely source: One Direction. Liam has jumped to the boy band’s defense, whom Noel criticized in a recent Rolling Stone interview, tweeting, “Hey NG leave those 1d kids alone.”
It’s unclear which of Noel’s 1D-related comments Liam was referring to. During the interview, Noel offered his unfiltered opinion of Zayn Malik’s decision to leave the beloved British band (“You can be fucking anything that moves and gettin’ paid half a million dollars a week, you fuckin’ idiot. You want to be a normal 22-year-old?”). But he also brought up the group while discussing his 15-year-old daughter’s budding musical tastes.
Though Gallagher said he was pleased his daughter was inquiring about Manchester Britpop band the Stone Roses, he added, “I wouldn’t have expected her to be into anything other than One Direction when she was 12. If she’s into One Direction when she’s 22, she’s getting shunned.”
But Liam did not harp on Noel’s One Direction hate for too long, turning his focus squarely on his brother. Again, Liam refuted Noel’s claims that he — or someone close to him — anonymously planted a rumor about an Oasis reunion, tweeting, “You know I don’t bum the press never had never will you know where I am if you need me.”
Liam also fired a few more shots at Noel Gallagher‘s High Flying Birds’ new album, Chasing Yesterday. Expanding on a previous dig at the album’s use of the saxophone, Liam tweeted, “Just coz you have a SAXAPHONE [sic] on your new record and you think your [sic] all Pink Floyd.” He then offered up the ridiculous insult: “Everybody knows your [sic] just another PRICK in the wall.”
