See Deorro and Chris Brown Throw a ‘Five More Hours’ School-Bus Party
L.A. DJ Deorro first received global club play with 2013’s pummeling “Yee,” but the rising-and-falling groove of last year’s “Five Hours” gave him the biggest hit of his young career. Now, a new version – “Five More Hours” – adds vocals from Chris Brown.
In the clip’s video, Brown heads to Coachella. When his car dies, Deorro comes to the rescue, driving a bus full of ravers dressed suspiciously lightly. Brown not only hitches a ride, he rocks some of the tightest dance moves ever performed by someone wearing a tie-dye Grateful Dead shirt.
“Sometimes I just make music and I don’t even know what I’m making,” Deorro told Rolling Stone this fall. “Who knows? I might start it off as an electro song and it ends up as an R&B song because I thought it sounded better with a different kind of kick pattern.”
These kicks are neither live drums nor downloadable samples; they’re manipulated vocal snippets that the DJ recorded into his phone. “I don’t want to go through patches and presets and allow someone else to create a sound and I later on find it in the bank or something,” he continued. “I create every sound by myself with literally just my voice and my iPhone. That’s taught me how to sound design. When you’re on presets, you’re really not learning anything. And it’s so cool to show the world that – that you can do whatever you want with sound.”
