Watch Jimmy Kimmel Play ‘Hipster or Hasidic?’ Game
With the show’s “Back to Brooklyn” week approaching its end, Jimmy Kimmel Live! both celebrated and lampooned the eclecticism of the New York borough with a game called “Hipster or Hasidic?” The hilarious, self-explanatory challenge finds Kimmel quizzing the audience by showing close-ups of mouths and asking if the person is a bearded hipster or Hasidic Jew. Not an easy task.
“Between the hipster community and the Hasidic community here in Brooklyn, Brooklyn is by far the most bearded spot in New York,” Kimmel says, introducing the game. “There’s more facial hair here than almost anywhere.”
The audience consensus is generally incorrect, and the game gets tougher as Kimmel throws in a few curveballs – including a Hasidic hipster combo (“I’m kinda both,” says the man, dubbed a “Hipsidic”), a Jewish man smoking a cigarette (“He smokes salmon and cigarettes,” Kimmel cracks) and, ramping up the confusion, a Hispanic man.
Elsewhere in the episode, Kimmel tries out a booming Brooklyn trend: the “juice crawl,” a healthier spin on the pub crawl where groups bounce around to juice shops. But the host isn’t impressed, calling juice crawlers “psychopaths” and noting, “They say it’s a great way to meet people you’d never want to meet.” Outraged by the thought of this event, he pauses his monologue to punch a juice crawl organizer in the face.
