Amy Schumer Skewers Disney Princesses in Fake Trailer
Amy Schumer goes medieval on the magical world of Disney princesses in a hilarious fake trailer for a film about one lucky girl’s rise to — and fall from — royalty, which aired on a recent episode of Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer.
While “Princess Amy” begins life as a lowly, rancid peasant girl, she’s visited by an royal attaché named Willenby (played amazingly by Tim Gunn), who whisks her away to a dream world of magnificent castles, beautiful dresses, chirping animated birds and dashing princes.
But Prince Gilligan, it turns out, isn’t so charming, and as Willenby informs Princess Amy, their marriage has been arranged to solidify an alliance and keep royal bloodlines pure. “Prince Gilligan here is actually your first cousin,” Willenby adds with a smile.
Things only get worse when the Princess, who it turns out is only 14, realizes her sole duty is to conceive a son with her close relative. “Won’t the baby be all like, jacked up?” she asks her attaché. “As sure as my name is Willenby!” he responds. But when Princess Amy fails to bear a boy it’s off with her head.
Though Princess Amy is momentarily saved by Prince Gilligan’s sudden assassination, Willenby sadly informs her the commoners have revolted, and they’re also demanding her decapitation. It’s a classic history book ending to a beautiful fairy tale.
“Princess Amy” marks yet another spot-on satire from the third season of Inside Amy Schumer, which wraps up in July. Schumer also wrote and stars in the upcoming Judd Apatow-directed comedy, Trainwreck, opening July 17th.
“I believe there are really horrible truths about all of us and there are also parts of us that are beautiful and giving,” Schumer told Rolling Stone last year about her penchant for playing terrible people. “A lot of the time I’m playing the girl who’s a victim and you feel bad for her, and then in the next scene I’m a complete nightmare. And I think that’s what people are like, with only a couple of exceptions.”
