See Skrillex’s Colorful K-Pop-Inspired Video ‘Dirty Vibe’
K-pop stars G-Dragon and CL live out a colorful, surrealistic explosion in the video for Skrillex‘s “Dirty Vibe,” a track off the producer’s most recent record, Recess. In its three minutes, the video endlessly switches up vignettes, focusing on the Big Bang and 2NE1 members with Super Soakers and gangs of onlookers as flashing lights and dancing demons fill in the gaps; neither Skrillex nor Diplo, who co-produced the track, appear in the clip.
The music producer also put out a longer, heavier, beat-focused remix of the track by the duo Gladiator, which is available to stream on Red Bull’s “20 Before 15” website.
Skrillex also put out an EP of “Dirty Vibe” remixes, which is now streaming. The four-track release contains versions of the track by DJ Snake and Aazar, Habstrakt, Jack Beats and Ricky Remedy.
In an interview with Red Bull, the producer explained how he met G-Dragon and CL. “We met in Korea when I was out there playing a show and, at the time, I was working on that track with Diplo,” Skrillex said. “I played it for them and really wanted them to write something for it. So the whole thing happened very organically.”
Regarding the song’s clip, Skrillex said he wanted a “simple performance video” that showcased the two artists. He also said that he had been into K-pop for a while – but not just the music. “I have always loved the culture of K-Pop. G-Dragon and CL are such inspiring artists for me,” he said. “I love the Koreans’ crazy over-the-top fashion and how it translates into the music. It’s just really fun music.”
Earlier this year, Skrillex and Diplo put out another collaboration, under the name Jack Ü, called “Take Ü There,” which featured lead vocals by Kiesza. The pair also created a drop-heavy video for the tune and has said it is working on a mixtape.
In the meantime, Skrillex and Diplo are co-headlining a New Year’s Eve concert at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Other artists making appearances include A$AP Ferg, Rudimental and Yellow Claw.
