‘Community’ Spoofs ‘Avengers’ in Season Six Trailer
After teasing its return on new home Yahoo! Screen with a hyper self-aware, anti-trailer, Community, in classic form, has upped the meta ridiculousness in the first official trailer for its forthcoming sixth season in a clip that bares a striking resemblance to the Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser.
But instead of Iron Man and the Hulk doing battle, there’s a mess of frisbees, a melodramatic Dean Pelton in a virtual reality suit, a group of inmates attending classes via roving tablets and Jeff Winger portraying a white-haired space mayor in an outrageous, intergalactic Greendale production.
The clip also features a look at Community‘s two new cast members, Paget Brewster and Keith David, both of whom are given ample time to stand out amidst Greendale’s finest. David in particular gets off one of the best lines, telling the study group, “Someone used the word ‘black’ and now you want me to give you the all clear? Please tell me that won’t be my role in this group. I have the brain the size of Jupiter — I’m nobody’s fourth Ghostbuster.”
Community will kick off its sixth season with the premiere of two new episodes, which arrive on Yahoo! Screen on March 17th. Yahoo will air 13 new episodes of the beloved cult comedy, with a new episode going live every Tuesday.
Yahoo! Screen resurrected Community shortly after it was canceled by NBC after a five-season run marked by poor ratings and personnel changes, as well as overwhelming critical praise and the support of a rabid fan base. Original cast member Chevy Chase left the show in 2012 after his feud with creator Dan Harmon spilled into the public, while Harmon himself was fired ahead of the show’s fourth season then rehired for Season Five. More recently, Community bid farewell to cast members Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown.
