Chase Rice Looks Ahead to More ‘Mature’ New Album
The party has to end sometime. Chase Rice is planning on changing his party-boy tune for his next album, the follow-up to his 2014 debut Ignite the Night, promising it will have a little more “substance” than we’ve seen out of him so far.
“By far, it will be the most authentic record I’ve done,” Rice tells Rolling Stone Country. Still, the North Carolina native promises not to dismiss the fun-loving songs that helped put him on the map.
“This record is going to be a lot more me,” he says, “a lot less girls, trucks and a perfect night. It’s going to have a lot more substance about what I’m singing about. There’s going to be a place on the record for [party songs], but it’s not going to be all about that. It’s a lot more substance to who I am as a person.”
Rice is targeting next summer for that new album, but he expects the first single from the still-untitled project to be released late this year or early next. That means he’s done releasing singles from Ignite the Night.
“I wanted to get a few more singles off my current record, but my writing is so much better and there is so much dynamic stuff that I’m writing about,” he says. “It’s a more mature me.”
With half of the new LP written, Rice recently set out on his JD and Jesus headlining tour with the Cadillac Three. The tour has given him a chance to show he’s more than just a country singer expert in the bro variety — he’s also joined the Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston, who has penned a cache of hits for Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and Jake Owen, in a series of onstage jams.
“We go back and forth on acoustic guitar and just play Number One songs,” Rice says. “It’s like a writers round in the middle of a set. You normally don’t have a band open for you that has all these Number Ones as writers.”
Rice will perform in Memphis on October 21st, before resuming his JD and Jesus Tour with the Cadillac Three on October 22nd in Austin.
