Watch Ed Sheeran’s Home Movies in ‘Photograph’ Video
Ed Sheeran has shared the music video for “Photograph,” the fifth and final single plucked from his platinum-selling X (or Multiply as he calls it). Perfectly timed for Mother’s Day, the ballad’s moving video is composed entirely of home video footage of Sheeran throughout the years, from his infancy to his music stardom.
“Here’s my brand new video for photograph (p.s its me),” Sheeran wrote after posting the video, as if fans couldn’t tell by looking at the toddler’s bright red mane. Watching the video is reminiscent of seeing Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck; in both, family home movies of the singers in their youth reveal a private side of the artists previously hidden from fans. Also, we learn that the “Lego House” singer really had a lifelong obsession with Legos.
In one stretch of the Emil Nava-directed video showcasing Sheeran’s musicianship, we see him practicing the cello on his living room couch as an adolescent. A jump cut later, the singer is playing bass guitar in the studio, strumming an acoustic guitar in front of a crowd full of fans and banging around on drums.
The nostalgic “Photograph” closes out a stretch of big X singles for Sheeran, a run that began with “Sing” and then a pair of smashes, “Don’t” and “Thinking Out Loud.” Sheeran also perked up the album version of “Bloodstream” with the help of dance duo Rudimental. The singer is currently on a world tour that will keep him on the road until December.
