Kraftwerk Calculate New Slate of 3-D Concert Dates
Electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk will return to the autobahn this fall for a 12-date North American trek. The newest leg of the Krautrock legends’ multimedia 3-D Concert tour will kick off September 16th in Edmonton, Alberta. The tour will stop by a dozen more cities that Kraftwerk have overlooked for decades; in some cases, The Man-Machine crew will visit cities they’ve never performed in. Tickets for all shows go on sale May 8th at 10 a.m.
The tour is an extension of the band’s globetrotting 2014 trek, which featured residencies at Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall and Oakland, California’s Fox Theatre. Before that, Kraftwerk set up shop at New York’s Museum of Modern Art for their eight-night retrospective The Catalogue 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. Kraftwerk currently features founder/singer Ralf Hütter – who received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 – alongside Fritz Hilbert, Henning Schmitz and Falk Grieffenhagen.
“So what’s new about a Kraftwerk show in 2014 — one that they’ve been continually refining on international stages for a couple years now? Well, no matter how many times you see them, it’s startling how futuristic their music still feels,” Matt Diehl wrote in his Rolling Stone review of Kraftwerk’s Autobahn performance in Los Angeles. “These shows feel like a true cultural event: both an investigation and celebration into how we’ve let technology take over our lives as global citizens, as well as a supreme example of pop songwriting at its most innovative and minimal.”
