Watch Noel Gallagher Tear Through ‘Lock All the Doors’ at Small U.K. Gig
When Noel Gallagher was younger, the High Flying Birds frontman hated playing smaller shows. “We’d been so huge in Oasis for years and then we did this fan club thing in Cologne, Germany, and the crowd was right there and it was the first time we’ve ever done it,” he told Rolling Stone earlier this week. “There were these German kids and nobody said a word and it was really weird. Liam [Gallagher] was getting really stressed about the whole thing. I said, ‘Well, fuckin’ hell, that was awful.'”
In the past few years, that attitude has begun to change, and these days Gallagher has even come to enjoy his occasional nightclub gigs. At the very least, he’s become quite successful at playing them – case in point, this rousing clip of the High Flying Birds performing “Lock All the Doors” for 450 fans at the Dome in London.
Though it was released on the High Flying Birds’ latest album, Chasing Yesterday, “Lock All the Doors” began as an Oasis track. The original demo still floats around, but Gallagher’s new take is particularly tight, filled with energy and left with a glossy finish. On Wednesday night, the band performed the song on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon while on the North American leg of its tour supporting the new album.
Gallagher will spend the next couple of months playing a combination of festivals, theaters and more clubs. “The more that I do it, the more I’m really at home with it now,” he told us, referring to those smaller gigs. “I can engage with the audience and we have a good laugh. So I prefer this now. It’s a funny thing; I’ve grown.”
