Watch John Oliver Flame FIFA’s Jack Warner
The feud between John Oliver and Jack Warner is fast becoming a battle of blockbuster proportions. And we’ve got the pyro to prove it.
After the Last Week Tonight host bought airtime on Trinidadian television to mock Warner in a segment called The Mittens of Disapproval Are On, the ex-FIFA vice president made waves by issuing his own response, a rambling, largely incoherent video set to overly dramatic music that drowned out most of his bitter words.
While Warner’s point was clear – essentially, fuck you “American foreigner!” – his execution was lacking.
“I don’t need any advice from any comedian fool who does not enter this country to tell me what facts to release or not to release,” Warner said in his address. “That is not his business. I take no instructions from him.”
And while you’d probably think Warner has far more important things to worry about right now – like being extradited to the United States and facing 20 years in prison – well, he’s the one who escalated this feud. So it was only a matter of time until Oliver responded…and thankfully, Sunday was that time.
Much like the rest of the world, Oliver ripped Warner’s video for its shoddy production value, most notably the soundtrack – as Oliver pointed out, the song featured is literally the first thing that comes up if you Google “epic and dramatic music.” Having parried Warner’s attack, he then brought the death blow: Challenging him to a video-making duel while fire rained down on the Last Week Tonight set.
“To you, I say this, Jack: If you really want to continue to trade shit-talking videos with increasingly high production elements, then consider your challenge accepted, my friend,” said Oliver. “Either respond to me by this time next week with a more spectacular video than this or I will accept your graceless defeat.”
Ooooh, burn! Your move, Jack.
