Watch Muse’s Dystopian ‘Dead Inside’ Video
Muse continues with the avant-garde, post-apocalyptic theme of their previously released visuals for June’s Drones LP with a video for new song “Dead Inside.” The clip spotlights a dark-eyed, dystopian pair interpretive dancing to the funky horror tune.
“This is where the story of the album begins, where the protagonist loses hope and becomes ‘Dead Inside,'” singer Matt Bellamy said in a statement last month. The video is an ominous reflection of the grinding tune about the dissolution of a relationship told through the couple’s moves. Like the catchy single, the clip veers spooky towards the end, culminating with the female dancer spinning her partner’s head and casting him aside before the cameras focus on her emotionless face and blacked-out eyes.
Muse announced Drones — their first album since 2012’s The 2nd Law — last month, though Bellamy had hinted at new music during a Twitter Q&A last summer. Soon after, the band premiered new song “Psycho” with a militaristic-themed lyric video, fitting for the overall theme of an album replete with track titles like “Reapers” and “The Globalist” that sound like they were pulled straight from a sci-fi novel.
“To me, ‘Drones’ are metaphorical psychopaths which enable psychopathic behavior with no recourse,” said Bellamy in a statement. “The world is run by Drones utilizing Drones to turn us all into Drones. Drones explores the journey of a human, from their abandonment and loss of hope, to their indoctrination by the system to be a human drone, to their eventual defection from their oppressors.”
Drones will be released on June 9th.
