Watch Robert Plant Refigure Led Zeppelin Songs at Bonnaroo
Robert Plant‘s Bonnaroo set earlier this month was one of the festival’s must-watch gigs, thanks in part to the unique ways that he and his band – the Sensational Space Shifters – reinterpreted his own past work with Led Zeppelin. In addition to tunes from his recent Lullaby and…the Ceaseless Roar LP, he and his band put a psychedelic folk spin on “Rock & Roll” and collaged together Howlin’ Wolf’s “No Place to Go” with Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused” into a transcendent echoey, bluesy rave-up.
Red Bull TV was on hand at the fest to capture those songs, which are both streaming here, as well as sets by Alabama Shakes and Gary Clark, Jr., among others. Video of songs from sets by Earth, Wind and Fire, Against Me!, Courtney Barnett, Spoon and others are all available to watch on the energy drink’s website.
Toward the end of the Shakes’ set, they played a searing rendition of their Sound & Color single “Don’t Wanna Fight.” Lead singer Brittany Howard let out a raspy scream to elated cheers from the audience before leading her band in the soulful blues rocker.
Meanwhile, Clark played his own bluesy Blak and Blu tune “Bright Lights” to a dense crowd of pool-noodle-wielding concertgoers, as he traded riffs with his pancho-wearing guitarist. “You’re gonna know my name by the end of the night,” he sings, transitioning into a searing guitar showdown with his Man With No Name–looking six-string–slinging counterpart. The tune was only the second one he played during his performance, setting the bar high for the rest of his set.
