The Game Enlists Kanye, Dre, Kendrick, Drake for ‘Documentary 2’ LP
The Game released his breakthrough album The Documentary in 2005, and on October 9th, the Compton rapper will finally drop the long-awaited all-star sequel to his hip-hop classic. The Documentary 2 will feature Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Ice Cube, Drake, Snoop Dogg, Ab-Soul, Diddy, will.i.am, Fergie, Future, Q-Tip and Dr. Dre, the latter serving as executive producer on the first Documentary a decade ago.
“To my true fans: it’s been really dope to have you ridin’ with me the last 10 years from the 1st Documentary till now” Game said in a statement. “This album is better than my 1st for more than a few reasons … but you don’t have to take my word for it because you will see for yourself when it drops October 9th! After Kendrick dropped his album, then Dr. Dre dropped #Compton then the movie doing 100 million [dollars] after just two weeks … this album will add to my city’s continuous legacy! I’m proud to be from #COMPTON & I wish Eazy E was alive to see us flourish yet again.”
The Documentary 2 is available to pre-order through iTunes, with those purchasing the album receiving an instant download of the Drake-featured “100” and new single “Dedicated,” featuring Future, a thumping, woozy cut that finds both rappers swearing allegiance to their crews, much like YG’s 2014 single “My Nigga.” The album also boasts “Just Another Day,” Game’s contribution to Dr. Dre’s Compton. Dr. Dre, Kanye, Just Blaze, DJ Premier, Timbaland, Cool & Dre and Jahlil Beats are among those who served as producers on the album.
The Documentary 2‘s album cover finds Game standing in front of a chain link fence with “The Game” and the album title written out in red and blue, colors associated with the Los Angeles-area’s most prominent gangs. “This album cover represents the struggle to stay alive in a city where CRIPS & BLOODS have been at war since 1972,” The Game wrote. “It’s because of you THE FANS that I will again get to give you my documented accounts of life here in Los Angeles.”
The Game also produced the short film The Making of the Documentary 2, which will host private screening in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles this September. For every day leading up to the album’s October 9th release, the Game will also give away $1,000 to his community through his Robin Hood Project charity.
